booked through “book your guide” and filtered by the most expensive option because I really wanted to pour everything in to an amazing experience. It was…not.
The tour guide herself was wonderful and extremely educated, but the operation completely misrepresented the experience. “Skip the line?” Nope!! I didn’t go to the colosseum because the line was around the block and of course there is no such thing as “skip the line” so it was either we wait and I miss the entire Roman forum, or we go. The description of the tour was not at all what we did. Instead of starting in the ancient part of the city as promised, the non-English speaking driver (who arrived 20 minutes late) took me to the Vatican, where I had already been. VIP luxury car? It was a van, and it came 3 times total. Each time we had to wait for it, as of course it was not waiting for us….the your operator has to make money, of course, so never was the car actually around, it was doing other transfers and coming back for us at prescheduled times.
We spent the first hour sitting at a cafe as I begged for a refund, as it was clear this was not what I had paid for. No chance of that, of course! So off we went, with the guide trying to find something to do to fill time, because of course we couldn’t do anything outside of the factory settings…have to follow the routine path!
Lunch? It was a menu for American cruise ship tourists, the worst kind of food I wouldn’t feed to a dog. No Italian would eat that food, I guarantee. While other guests (not part of the pre-packaged tour scam) were given a proper menu, I was given the “prepaid tour menu” with the “American favorites” prepared not in the Italian style but perfectly for American tourists. I couldn’t eat it.
Use this company if you want an educated guide, but NOT if you are hoping to get a proper experience with a car, driver, decent food, and ability to customize the sights you want to see. The fact that they can use the words “luxury” and “VIP” in their description is amazing. $1,000 spent, for a one person tour…it’s not right.
